1. Akershus Castle, Norway
Built-in 1290s, the castle was a site for Nazi executions. It is believed to be haunted by a robed woman and a Malcanisen dog. The locals say however sees the spirit of the Malcanisen is doomed to die in the near future.
2. Island Of Dolls, Mexico
The legend talks of a girl who died hereafter drowning in a Mexican canal. When Julian Barrera moved to this island, he was haunted by the spirit of the girl. To please her spirit, he hung several dolls across the island. After a while, Julian told his nephew that the girl wanted him to join her as a playmate in the afterlife. His body was later found in the canal at the same spot as that of the girl. Visitors to the island have reported that the eyes of the dolls follow them. They have even reported hearing voices of whispers and laughing.
3. Rose Hall, Jamaica
One of the plantation’s former female owner is said to have killed several husbands and slaves using voodoo. The site is reported to be haunted by their spirits, the Rose Hall is considered as one of the most haunted places in the world.
4. Old Changi Hospital And Changi Beach, Singapore
The hospital was built in 1935. The beach and hospital together are said to be haunted by the spirits of hundreds of dead Chinese soldiers. The Japanese Kempeitai (Japanese Imperial Secret Police) occupied the hospital and turned it into a torture camp during World War II. There have also been reports of headless soldiers on the beach at night.
5. Castle Of Good Hope, South Africa
The Castle of Good Hope was used by the Dutch East India Company for the replenishment of ships that were to venture into the dangerous waters. For years, the guards on duty report seeing the ghosts of a screaming woman, a tall gentleman, and a black dog. The ghost of the screaming woman, however, reportedly stopped making an appearance after a woman’s body was excavated near the castle.
6. Poveglia Island, Italy
The island is not visited by anyone because of it’s dark, spine-chilling history. It is said, when the city was suffering with plague, there was no cure for the people and they were left to die. Several corpses were buried in graves without treating them. Their ghosts now haunt the island.
7. Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, South Korea
The hospital is one of the scariest places on earth, so much so that the hunted building is closed by iron bars and posters are pasted everywhere warning people to stay away. It is said that suddenly students who were studying or learning psychiatry started committing suicides without any reason. It is also believed that there was a doctor who used to ill-treat his psychic patients. The place is haunted with the ghosts of the innocent students.
8. Screaming Tunnel, Canada
The tunnel at Ontario is located beneath the railway track from Toronto to New York via Niagara Falls. The legend talks of the death of a young girl about 100 years ago when her farm house, located at the south entrance of the tunnel, caught fire. The girl, burning in fire, ran towards in search of help but died inside the tunnel. Ever since, if anyone lights a fire inside the tunnel, the screams of the girl are heard and the fire dies out.
