1. Khimsar Sand Dunes Village, Rajasthan

Sand dunes that appear to go on forever surround this lesser-known wonder of India. Thankfully, only a jeep, camel, or horse can get there. It’s actually secluded, rustic, and charming! These magnificent huts, which are rustic in appearance and in keeping with the surroundings, were specifically created to be environmentally sustainable. Here you can  experience the peace and splendour of the Thar desert!

The seemingly fictitious mini-lake appears to be nothing more than a mirage. Sip your coffee while seeing a brilliant dawn or a vibrant sunset over golden sands. Take a jeep excursion into the black buck reserve or have a dinner around a campfire while watching a million stars smile down on you.

2. Gandikota, Andhra Pradesh

The charming town of Gandikota is located in the Kadapa region of Andhra Pradesh and is affectionately referred to as the “Grand Canyon of India.” The town, which is bordered by River Pennar on the right, is well-known for the breathtaking canyons the river has carved into the Erramala Hills. The high sandstone walls and small valleys with streams running between them remind one of Arizona’s famous Grand Canyon.

From the main gate, you must travel approximately a kilometre to the boulder from which you can take in the breathtaking view from the fort’s nearby viewpoint.

3. Damro, Arunachal Pradesh

The picturesque village of Damro Gidum is located in the Mariyang Block of Upper Siang in Arunachal Pradesh. With just 78 houses and a population of under 500 people, this place stands out for the relaxed way of life you may enjoy while there. It is well known for its thatched bamboo huts and a large area of meadows.

Here, above the River Yamne, is Arunachal Pradesh’s longest hanging bridge, made of bamboo and rope. It is suspended between cables using canes and wires, with a pathway made of bamboo panels that have been cut in half as a safety measure. The utilisation of these materials is also a symbol of the tribal culture of the area.

The tribal people use this 1000-foot suspension bridge to travel to the other end of the bridge for their daily needs and means of subsistence.

4. Umngot River, Meghalaya

Umngot, a tiny river in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills, passes through Dawki at a distance of 1 km from Dawki Market. This lesser-known wonder of India is also referred to as the Dawki River and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Dawki and Meghalaya.

The river not only flows through a lush landscape, but it also has a silvery sheen. Additionally, boating on the crystalline lake is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The journey begins at the border and proceeds up the river to a little island-like area with stones all over the place. The marine life in the sea is easily visible while boating. The town draws a lot of visitors, especially during the months of March and April when the annual boat race on the Umngot River is held there.

5. Jog Falls, Karnataka

The Shimoga district of Karnataka is home to Jog Falls, one of the state’s top tourist destinations. It is one of the highest waterfalls in India and is also known as Gerusoppe Falls, Gersoppa Falls, and Jogada Gundi. One can experience a breath-taking vista of the falls during the monsoon season, with rainbows appearing sometimes.
