Only daughters names on the nameplates of homes in a small village in Haryana

In the small village of Haryana with over 1200 residents, a pattern was observed. The houses in Kirori, Nuh district had nameplates of daughters living there. Yes, that’s right. Only daughters names, no prefix of the father, brother or any other member of the family. This is unheard of even in the developed metropolitan cities, and thus to see Nuh leading the way for gender inclusivity, awareness and equality was a happy surprise.

The step was taken under the flagship programme of ‘Laado Swabhiman,’ which was made possible by the former sarpanch of Bibipur village in Jind, Sunil Jaglan. He is the same man whose selfie initiative with his daughter was appreciated by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi himself.

Jaglan told Time of India he was inspired by the Swamitva Yojna launched by Modi to help villagers get full rights of their properties. He further added:

“Kirori has become the first village in the state and the country where each house has a nameplate with names of daughters. While similar initiatives have been carried out across the country earlier, this is the first time it has been done on this scale and with uniformity,”

We wish other districts, cities, states follow on the footsteps of Kirori in Nuh district, Haryana.
