Sardinia in Italy is offering people a whopping €15,000 to relocate

If you’ve ever wanted to relocate to a warm island, this is your chance: People who move to Sardinia will receive a staggering €15,000 in compensation.

The second-largest island in the Mediterranean, located in Italy, is known for its turquoise waters, sandy beaches, and clear skies.

The idyllic island is confronted by a declining rural population as young residents leave for jobs overseas.

The government has allocated €45 million for the relocation grant, or enough money to pay 3,000 awards, to stop this migration.

The rules of the scheme

You must relocate to a Sardinian municipality with fewer than 3,000 residents in order to qualify for the grant.

Additionally, a property purchase or renovation must be made with the funds. Government funding may not always reach the full €15,000; the award cannot exceed half the total cost of the home or refurbishment.

Last but not least, beneficiaries are required to register for permanent status in Sardinia within 18 months of arriving and to remain full-time on the new property.

Why is Sardinia paying people to relocate there?

The population of Italy is ageing. The average age of Italians is 45.7, and by 2050, that number is expected to increase to 50.7. By 2070, the total population is expected to decrease by about 20%, from 59.55 million to 47.6 million.

The programme, according to the president of Sardinia, Christian Solinas, will attract young people to stay or relocate to the island.

“Thanks to these contributions to [homebuyers’] first houses, [Sardinia] becomes fertile ground for those who will move there or decide to build a family,” he said.

“There can be no growth without a real enhancement of the territories, of the interior and most disadvantaged areas… We have created the conditions for young people to decide to stay and develop the economic fabric of the most fragile territories.”

Welcome to your new home in Sardinia

An island of a thousand contrasts that will enchant you with its distinctive archaeological history and its people’s instinctive sense of hospitality. It has crystal-clear waters, smooth, white sand beaches, and granite rocks flanked by wild, aromatic Mediterranean scrub.

The island is awaiting for you!
