Lebanese woman, Hana Mohammed Khodor, set on fire by husband

Hana Mohammed Khodor, 21, was allegedly set on fire by her husband using the home’s gas cylinder and was taken to a hospital in critical condition with complete body burns in Lebanon.

According to local media, the husband, named as A.A., is accused of beating his five-months pregnant wife severely and fighting with her because she refused to have an abortion.

A.A. did not want the child because he and his wife were from low-income families in Tripoli, a city in northern Lebanon, the report said.

Khodor was admitted to Al-Salam Hospital on August 6, suffering from 100% body burns.

The doctor told Arab News: “As we speak, she is battling for her life. She is between life and death in the intensive care unit. Hana was five months pregnant when the incident happened. The baby died and we had to operate on her to remove the fetus. Her chances of survival are very bleak.”

The victim’s aunt claimed to a local TV station that A.A. severely assaulted his wife to force her into having the pregnancy terminated. She claimed that after Khodor declined to have the baby aborted, he brought her home and set her on fire with a gas cylinder.

Khodor’s father requested that members of the public donate whatever they could in order to help with the treatment, and help save his daughter’s life.

Lebanese Internal Security Forces arrested the husband, who had been planning to flee the country.
