According to reports, a 10-year-old boy from Wisconsin shot and killed his mother when she refused to buy him a virtual reality headset. The boy initially claimed the shooting was an accident, but later admitted he intended to shoot his mother.

His aunt and sister, who assert that he has not sobbed or displayed any sorrow, claim that he got into her Amazon account the morning after she passed away and ordered a headset.

The boy is now being held in juvenile jail and has been charged as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide.

On November 21, just before seven in the morning, the incident took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

For very heinous crimes, state law mandates that children as young as 10 must be charged as adults; however, attorneys can ask that the case be transferred to a juvenile court.

This is an incredible family tragedy, according to Angela Cunningham, one of the boy’s attorneys.

“I don’t think anybody would deny or disagree with that… the adult system is absolutely ill-equipped to address the needs of a 10-year-old child.”

On November 21, just before 7 a.m., a gunshot took place. According to criminal charges obtained by a local newspaper, the child is reported to have told police he took the gun from his mother’s bedroom and went to the basement where she was doing laundry.

Initially, Milwaukee Police said that the boy was “playing” with the gun when it accidentally discharged, killing his mother. The incident is referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney General’s Office, said the police department. Additionally, they urged people to “keep firearms secured with a gunlock and out of children’s reach.”

However, a day later, worried family members contacted the police.

According to the boy’s aunt, when she picked him up, he produced a set of house keys that also included the lock box key to the gun. When his aunt inquired about the shooting, the boy said that he pointed the gun at his mother, who told him to put it down. According to the boy’s aunt and sister, he never sobbed or displayed remorse.

They added that the morning after his mother passed away, he signed into her Amazon account and purchased an Oculus VR headset. He also brutally assaulted his 7-year-old cousin the same morning.

Family members indicated the boy had a history of disturbing behaviour. The accusation claims that when he was 4 years old, he spun the family’s puppy by its tail. They further said that six months ago, the boy loaded a balloon with flammable liquid and lit it on fire, causing an explosion that burnt furniture and the carpet.

After receiving new set of information the Milwaukee police questioned the boy again. He then confessed to have taken a shooting posture and pointed the gun at his mother with two hands. When she moved in front of him, he shot her, he also said he first tried shooting a wall to “frighten her.”

The boy informed the police that he had taken the gun from the lock box that morning because his mother had woken him up early (at 6 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m.) and because she had forbidden him from making an Amazon purchase.
