In Hyderabad, crime against women and children is on the rise

The Hyderabad Police have registered 357 cases under POCSO Act and around 2,393 cases under many IPC sections against those who were involved in crimes against women in 2021.

Hyderabad’s Police Commissionerate remarked that crime against women and children has increased in the city in 2021 while speaking at the annual crime round-up on the Gibraltar rock in Hussainsagar Lake.

The Hyderabad Police Department has filed 357 POCSO Act cases and 2,393 IPC section cases against persons who have committed crimes against women.

In the Hyderabad commissionerate, the number of rape cases registered increased from 265 in 2020 to 328 in 2021.

According to Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, when the city’s lockdown limitations were relaxed, the number of cases against women and children increased.

Shikha Goel, Additional Commissioner of Police, reviewed the year-end crime and said, ‘’A major factor that led to increase in the number of crimes against women was blind trust. The increasing crimes were seen committed by the known circle of the victims, which constituted 95 per cent of the cases.’’

As quoted by saying by Telangana Today, Goel said, ‘’the police were seeing the increase in numbers as a healthy trend as more women and children were showing trust and faith in the police system and coming forward to make complaints. Of the total rape cases registered in the city only in six or seven cases there is the involvement of strangers while in rest of the cases, persons known to the victims committed the crime.’’
