According to Forbes’ latest report on global billionaires in 2024, the world now hosts a total of 2,781 billionaires, with Jagtiani ranking 660th worldwide and 44th within India.

But who is Renuka Jagtiani?

At the age of 70, Jagtiani presides over the Landmark Group, a colossal retail conglomerate with its headquarters in Dubai. The foundation of the group was laid by her late husband, Micky Jagtiani, in 1973. Under Renuka Jagtiani’s stewardship, Landmark has expanded its presence across 24 countries spanning the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, showcasing her strategic prowess in corporate strategy and market penetration over more than twenty years.

Jagtiani’s leadership extends to a workforce exceeding 50,000 individuals, and she has been instrumental in diversifying Landmark Group’s interests into over 25 proprietary brands across various sectors including retail, hospitality, and leisure.

Starting with the launch of Landmark’s Indian operations in 1999, Jagtiani’s strategic guidance has seen the company grow to include 900 stores in India alone, under brands like Lifestyle, Home Centre, and Max.

Her entrepreneurial journey and leadership have not gone unnoticed, earning her several accolades such as the Outstanding Asian Business Woman of the Year award in 2007 and the Entrepreneur of the Year award by the World Entrepreneurship Forum in 2014. Although she was recognized in Forbes’ list of the world’s most powerful women in 2021, she did not appear on the list in 2022.

Another noteworthy figure is Savitri Jindal, who, with a net worth of $35.5 billion, underscores the increasing prominence of women in India’s business sector.

This surge in wealth has not been confined to India alone. Globally, the last financial year saw an addition of 265 billionaires to Forbes’ list, highlighting significant economic shifts and the emergence of new wealth across the world.
