The Iranian Year 1400

Holding Chaharshabe Suri ceremony on the last Wednesday of the year promises the arrival of a “new day”: people jump on fire and shout my yellowness from you, your redness from me / my coldness from you, your warmth from me.

On Saturday, March 20, at 13:07:28, the Iranian solar year 1400 began. The markets and Iranians who have been under the shadow of the difficult economic situation and corona welcome the year 1400 with a minimum celebration.

Simultaneously, with the last days of the year and approaching the celebration of Nowruz, the supply and production of small redfish as one of the Haft-Sin table symbols has started in different cities.

In the last days of the year, the spring cleaning time, the carpet washing workshops are working hard and washing people’s carpets to deliver them to their customers as soon as possible and before the end of the year.

Haft-sin is a symbolic arrangement of seven items whose names begin with the letter “س” which is pronounced as “seen” the 15th letter in the Persian alphabethaft (هفت) is Persian for seven.

300 million people worldwide including those from Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Pakistan, Turkey and other countries in Central Asia and West Asia celebrates Nowruz. The Persian New Year marks the first day of the spring season and begins at 3:07 pm on Spring Equinox (time of the year when day and night are of equal length).

Keeping in mind the significance of this festival, the United Nations marks 21 March as the International Nowruz Day. The festival was added to the ‘Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’ in 2009 and the occasion has been celebrated since 2010. Although Nowruz can fall on any day between 19 March to 22 March, International Nowruz Day is celebrated on 21 March.
