Chris Pratt returns as former Navy SEAL James Reece in a bigger, more ambitious season that shifts the series from pure revenge thriller into globe-trotting espionage. Adapted from Jack Carr’s novel True Believer, Season 2 picks up months after the events of the first season. Reece is a fugitive living off the grid, still dealing with the aftermath of his personal losses and a terminal brain tumor. When the CIA tracks him down, they offer a presidential pardon and medical treatment in exchange for his help stopping a resurgent terrorist network.
The story expands far beyond the personal stakes of Season 1. It involves diverted American weapons, Al-Qaeda operatives, Russian ultranationalists, and a conspiracy that stretches from Africa and the Middle East to Europe and Langley. Characters from the prequel series Dark Wolf, including Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings, play major roles, helping build a shared universe.
The action remains the biggest strength. Fight sequences and tactical set pieces feel intense, well-choreographed, and grounded. The violence carries weight rather than feeling cartoonish. Locations across Mozambique, Morocco, Beirut, and beyond give the season a larger scale that suits the international plot.
Chris Pratt delivers a more restrained and layered performance than in Season 1. Reece is quieter, more burdened, and searching for purpose after completing his list. The quieter moments of grief and reflection land effectively. Tom Hopper frequently steals scenes as Raife Hastings, bringing strong presence and chemistry. Constance Wu continues as journalist Katie Buranek, whose parallel investigation into the weapons pipeline adds another layer.
The season improves on the first by giving Reece a clearer path toward redemption while still delivering the gritty, no-nonsense tone fans expect.
The conspiracy can feel dense. Multiple factions, double-crosses, and family history threads require close attention, and some exposition lands heavy. The early episodes move more slowly as they re-establish Reece’s situation and connect to Dark Wolf. New viewers may feel a barrier to entry without having watched the prequel.
A few critics describe the show as conventional “dadcore” action television that leans into familiar tropes without reinventing them. The plot occasionally prioritizes momentum over deeper character exploration outside of Reece himself.
Early critic scores show clear improvement over Season 1. Rotten Tomatoes landed around 67% (Fresh), up significantly from the first season’s 42%. Metacritic sat at 66 based on initial reviews, labeled Generally Favorable. Positive notices from ScreenRant, Collider, and CBR praised the action, Pratt’s work, and the expanded scope. Mixed or lower scores pointed to formulaic elements and a complicated plot.
Audience response has historically been much stronger for the franchise, and early feedback continues that trend for those who enjoy hard-edged military thrillers.
The Terminal List Season 2 is a confident, high-energy follow-up that delivers exactly what its core audience wants: intense action, a driven protagonist, and a twisty conspiracy with personal stakes. It is bigger and more polished than the first season while staying true to the source material’s spirit. The shift to international intrigue works, even if the denser plotting occasionally slows the pace.
Fans of Season 1, Dark Wolf, or books by Jack Carr should find this a satisfying and often thrilling continuation. Casual viewers may need patience in the early episodes and some familiarity with the prior stories. For pure action-thriller entertainment that prioritizes grit over polish, it ranks among the stronger entries of its type on streaming.
