Amidst fears that states with successful population control would lose political weight, the PM assured the House that “no state will face discrimination.” He emphasized that the delimitation process would be fair and transparent, aiming to increase the absolute number of seats without diminishing the proportional representation of the South.
The Opposition, led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has raised significant red flags. Gandhi warned that if the Women’s Quota is tied strictly to the completion of the Census and Delimitation, its implementation could be delayed by years, potentially “finishing the spirit of democracy” for an entire generation of women leaders.
