West Bengal Records Historic 91% Voter Turnout in Phase 2

The second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 wrapped up with a staggering 91.62% voter turnout, according to preliminary reports. The districts involved in this phase saw citizens queuing up from as early as 6 AM, undeterred by the sweltering weather and reports of localized skirmishes between rival party supporters.

While the high turnout suggests a highly engaged electorate, the day was not without controversy. Both the TMC and BJP have traded allegations of voter intimidation and booth capturing in sensitive constituencies. The Election Commission, however, maintained that the polling remained largely peaceful under the watchful eye of central security forces. As the boxes are sealed, all eyes now turn to the exit polls, which are expected to start trickling in soon after the final phase of the election.
