Incident Timeline and Rescue Efforts

The fire reportedly originated on the second floor of a four-story residential building around 3:13 AM. By the time the Delhi Fire Service received the emergency call at 3:48 AM, the flames had already engulfed the upper floors.

  • Emergency Response: 14 fire tenders were dispatched to the scene, along with teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and local police.
  • Rescue Operation: Firefighters successfully evacuated approximately 15 people using ladders and rescue gear through balconies and windows. Two individuals with minor injuries were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
  • Casualties: Tragically, nine charred bodies were recovered by search teams. Officials confirmed that five victims were found on the second floor, while others were discovered in a locked staircase and on the top floor.

Suspected Cause: The “AC Blast” Theory

While a formal investigation by the fire department is pending, local residents and witnesses have pointed toward a short circuit or an air conditioner (AC) blast as the likely trigger. With temperatures rising in the NCR, the heavy load on electrical systems is a growing concern for high-rise safety.

The rescue and search operations concluded around 8:00 AM after the cooling process was completed. However, identification of the victims remains a challenge, with authorities stating that DNA testing may be required due to the severity of the burns.
