I Shook My Body Like a Wet Golden Retriever for 30 Seconds, and You Won’t BELIEVE What Happened Next (Emotional!)

Life can get a bit too “serious adult” sometimes. When your brain feels like it has too many tabs open, the best cure is usually something low-stakes and slightly ridiculous.

Here are a few silly, science-backed (mostly by the “vibes” department) ways to snap out of a stress spiral:

1. The “Noodle Shake”

Stand up and pretend you have no bones. Shake your arms, legs, and torso as if you’re a giant inflatable tube man outside a car dealership.

  • Why it works: It physically releases stored tension and forces you to realize how goofy you look, which usually triggers a smile.

2. Narrate Your Life Like a Nature Documentary

In your head (or out loud if you’re alone), describe your current stress in the voice of Sir David Attenborough.

“Here we see the Human in its natural habitat, staring intensely at the glowing rectangle. It is overwhelmed by the ‘Email,’ a predator of the modern age.”

3. The 30-Second Solo Dance Party

Put on the most obnoxious, upbeat song you know—think “Canned Heat” or “Kung Fu Fighting”—and dance like nobody is watching (because hopefully, they aren’t).

4. Terrible Opera

Whatever you are currently doing, sing it in a dramatic, glass-shattering operatic voice.

  • Example: “I AM WAAAAASHING THE DISHES… AND THE SPRAAAAY IS TOO HOOOOOT!”

5. Make a “Middle Management” Face

Look in the mirror and try to make the most exaggerated “confused” or “disappointed” face possible. Think Jim Halpert from The Office but 10x more dramatic. It’s hard to stay stressed when you’re making eye contact with a caricature of yourself.

6. The “Aggressive” Compliment

Pick a random object in the room like a stapler or a houseplant and yell a very sincere compliment at it.

  • “YOU ARE THE STURDIEST STAPLER THIS OFFICE HAS EVER SEEN AND I APPRECIATE YOUR CONSISTENCY!”
