Jennifer Lopez is remembering the late Selena Quintanilla, whose remarkable life story helped begin her career. On the 25th anniversary of “Selena,” the autobiographical film in which Lopez plays the title role. The “On My Way” singer shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Queen of Tejano.
“What a fantastic day… we’re commemorating 25 years of SELENA!”.
“Today we celebrate and commemorate Selena’s legacy and music,” Lopez captioned an Instagram slideshow of photographs and videos.
“This movie means so lot to me… Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I was very lucky to be picked to play her.”
I’ll never forget this period in my life, and it’s an honour for me as an artist.
The slideshow also includes a flashback film of Lopez promoting “Selena” on “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.
“The experts were present every day. “It was difficult, but I knew I had a difficult job ahead of me,” Lopez remarked at the time.
“It was nonstop from the moment I received the part.”
I was working on another film at the time, and in my trailer, it was just music all day, videos all day, just to fully absorb who she was. She was an extremely cheerful and alive person. I took in as much as I could of her. I tried to figure out what made her tick, what made her happy, and what made her sad.
Lopez received her first Golden Globe nomination in 1998 for her portrayal of the singer who was fatally murdered by Yolanda Saldvar.
The National Picture Registry of the Library of Congress added “Selena” as a “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” film last year.
