PM Modi Celebrates Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee and ‘Act Fast’ Policy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the closing ceremony of celebrations marking the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s statehood. Speaking at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok, the Prime Minister praised the state’s rapid development and its unique position as a leader in organic farming and sustainable tourism. He described the eight NorthEast states as India’s “Ashtalakshmi,” representing the multifaceted nature of prosperity and growth for the entire nation.

During his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted a significant shift in the government’s regional strategy. He stated that the administration is not just committed to the “Act East” policy but has now resolved to “Act Fast” for the Northeast. This new approach focuses on accelerating connectivity through better roads, railways, and air travel, which is expected to significantly increase tourist inflow to the region. The goal is to ensure that the beauty and culture of states like Sikkim are accessible to the world.

The Prime Minister also noted that tourism remains the mainstay of Sikkim’s economy and that the government is working on large-scale infrastructure projects to support this. As the state enters its next 50 years, the focus will remain on balancing modern development with the preservation of its natural environment. The event was attended by thousands of residents, marking a historic moment in the state’s journey as a vital part of the Indian union.
