The Night Agent Season 3: “Shadows of Power” – Plot Summary

The Night Agent Season 3 Summary

In the explosive third season of Netflix’s hit action-thriller The Night Agent, titled “Shadows of Power”, FBI agent and full-fledged Night Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) returns after the high-stakes events of Season 2, where he made a dangerous pact with shadowy intelligence broker Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). Burned out from back-to-back cases and yearning for balance, Peter reluctantly accepts a new assignment from his superiors at Night Action.

The season kicks off with a contained manhunt: track down Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma), a young FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) analyst who has fled to Istanbul after allegedly killing his boss and stealing classified files. Jay’s intel reveals suspicious financial trails linking American entities to the terrorist group L.F.S. (responsible for downing Flight PIMA 12 and killing hundreds, including Americans). Jay hands the damning documents to relentless financial journalist Isabel De Leon (Genesis Rodriguez), putting her directly in the crosshairs of paid assassins.

Peter pursues Jay in Istanbul leading to tense sequences at a soccer match in Beşiktaş Stadium before teaming up with Isabel to unravel the larger conspiracy. The money trail points to a dark-money network financing terrorism, with ties to high-level U.S. figures. Old grudges resurface as Jacob Monroe re-enters the picture, now desperate to protect his daughter (revealed to be Isabel) after she becomes a target. Peter negotiates uneasy alliances, using Monroe’s vast network of spies and politicians to expose the threats.

As the investigation deepens, Peter collides with corruption reaching the White House. Evidence emerges implicating President Richard Hagan (Ward Horton) and First Lady Jenny Hagan (Jennifer Morrison) in money laundering schemes through a nonprofit, designed to secure Hagan’s election and cover tracks involving Jacob Monroe’s influence. Peter’s new partner Adam (David Lyons) initially aids the mission but is later exposed as working against him to protect the president’s secrets.

The season builds to a breathless finale filled with betrayals, major character deaths (including loose ends tied up violently), and high-octane confrontations. Peter, alongside allies like Secret Service agent Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola), exposes the conspiracy and prevents further attacks by the L.F.S. Jacob Monroe meets his end as part of the cover-up ordered from the top.

In the aftermath, Peter chooses to step back from Night Action temporarily, heeding advice to find balance though his new handler hints at an upcoming mission with a potential new partner, teasing future threats. The season emphasizes Peter’s growth into a confident operative while exploring themes of trust, patriotism’s moral cost, and power’s corrupting reach in a post-truth world.

Tighter, more confident, and packed with twists, Season 3 stands as the strongest yet delivering globe-spanning action, shocking revelations, and a satisfying (if setup-heavy) close that leaves the door wide open for more.
