Two automobiles in Shengal, a Yazidi town in northern Iraq, were hit by missiles.
At around 3.30 p.m. local time, Turkish drones commenced an attack on the Shilo Valley region. YBS Commander Azad Ezdin and YBS fighter Enver Tolhildan were two of the victims in the cars.
Tensions have grown in recent weeks as the Iraqi army moves in on Shengal, which is located in the midst of the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.
The Iraqi army requested that all armed organisations leave Shengal in January, and that if necessary, they would seize control of the Yazidi town by force.
Shengal is governed by an autonomous administration that adheres to the democratic confederalism system, which was designed by imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.
The Shengal Autonomous Administration called on the international community today “to prevent military escalation and to promote solutions based on an autonomous administration in Shengal.”
Isis carried out a genocide in Shengal in 2014, in which hundreds of men and boys were slaughtered and over 3,000 women and girls were sold into sexual slavery.
Thousands more sought sanctuary on Mount Sinjar, which was besieged until the PKK liberated the area.
