You Are Playing Ping Pong with Yourself—And It’s Time to Stop

Ever feel like you’re stuck in a never-ending game of mental ping pong? One moment, you’re confident. The next, self-doubt smacks you right back. You hype yourself up, then instantly tear yourself down. Sound familiar? Welcome to the exhausting sport of second-guessing yourself.

The Endless Back-and-Forth

Women are masters of self-negotiation. We talk ourselves into things, then out of them. We want to take up space, but also shrink. We dream big, then convince ourselves we’re not ready. It’s a constant rally between ambition and hesitation.

This mental ping pong keeps us in limbo. We hesitate on asking for that raise. We overthink sending that email. We debate whether we’re “qualified enough” for an opportunity. And while we’re busy playing this game, opportunities slip away.

Why Do We Do This?

Blame it on conditioning. Society has trained us to doubt before we dare. We’ve been told to be polite, to wait our turn, to not be “too much.” Over time, we internalize these messages. They become the little voice whispering, Are you sure? Maybe you should think about it more.

Here’s the truth: Overthinking is not a strategy. It’s a delay tactic. And it’s keeping you from stepping into your full power.

Time to Drop the Paddle

So how do you stop this self-inflicted game? Start by recognizing the pattern. The moment you catch yourself playing both sides, pause. Ask yourself: If I weren’t overthinking this, what would I do?

Then, do it.

Say yes before your brain finds a reason to say no. Apply before you feel 100% ready. Speak up before you talk yourself out of it. The key is action. Because clarity comes from doing, not debating.

The Final Serve

The world isn’t waiting for you to be “perfect.” It’s waiting for you to show up. Stop playing mental ping pong with yourself. Drop the paddle. Walk away from the table. And take your next step with confidence—no back-and-forth required.
