India’s rising squash star Anahat Singh has etched her name in history by clinching the prestigious British Junior Open Under-17 Championship in England. At just 16 years old, Anahat showcased exceptional skill and determination, defeating Egypt’s Malika Al Karaxi in a thrilling final. Despite an initial setback, Anahat made a stunning comeback to win the match 4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3, securing her spot in the annals of the tournament’s history.
Anahat’s path to glory was paved with extraordinary performances. In the semi-finals, she triumphed over another Egyptian player, Rukaiya Salem, with a 9-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 victory. Her journey began with an impeccable quarter-final match, where she dominated Nadia Tamer with a commanding 3-0 win.
This latest title adds to Anahat’s impressive record at the British Junior Open. She previously won the Under-11 title in 2019 and the Under-15 title in 2023, making her the first Indian to win three titles at this prestigious tournament. Her 2023 victory saw her defeat Egypt’s Soheila Hazem 3-1 in a memorable final. With her latest triumph, Anahat has surpassed Indian squash legend Joshna Chinappa, who won the Under-17 and Under-19 titles in 2003 and 2005, respectively.
Anahat’s talents extend beyond junior squash. She made headlines in 2022 as the youngest Indian player to compete in the Commonwealth Games, further establishing herself as a prodigy in the sport.
Born on March 13, 2008, in Delhi, Anahat hails from a family that supports her dreams wholeheartedly. Her father, Gursharan Singh, is a lawyer, and her mother, Tani Singh, is an interior designer. Together, they’ve nurtured her passion for squash, which has now brought her international acclaim.
