Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated film Emergency is set to release on January 17, 2025.
This biographical drama delves into the tumultuous period of the Indian Emergency from 1975 to 1977, with Ranaut portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.
Directed and co-produced by Ranaut, Emergency has faced multiple delays, including challenges with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Initially slated for a 2023 release, the film was postponed to June 2024, then September 2024, before securing its current January 2025 release date.
The film’s music features compositions by G. V. Prakash Kumar and Arko, with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir. The first single, “Singhasan Khali Karo,” was released on August 26, 2024, reigniting memories of the 1975 uprising.
