Britney Spears announces engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari

Pop sensation Britney Spears, who has been fighting a conservatorship that governs her personal life and finances, announced on Sunday that she is engaged to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari.

The singer posted a video of herself standing next to Asghari and showing off a ring in her hand. “I can’t f***ing believe it,” she said in the caption, next to ring emojis.

Asghari’s manager Brandon Cohen confirmed that the pair were engaged.

“The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,” Cohen said via email.

Spears, 39, has been married twice before. In 2004, she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas, but the marriage was soon dissolved. She married dancer Kevin Federline later that year, with whom she had two children, but their marriage ended in divorce in 2007.

Asghari, 27, is an Iranian-born personal trainer and actor who has been on Showtime’s “Black Monday.”

He and Spears began dating in 2016.

“I just want my life back,” Spears told a Los Angeles court in June, referring to the 13-year-old conservatorship largely overseen by her father. She expressed her desire to marry and have more children.

Jamie Spears, Spears’ father, stated last week that circumstances had changed and that he had filed a petition to have the conservatorship lifted. The case’s next court date has been set.
