Period or menstruation is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman’s monthly cycle and for some of us, it’s a monthly nightmare. The cramps, mood swings, and heavy flow are enough to agitate every cell in our body. At times the pain is so overwhelming that even the process of eating food seems tumulous. So we decided to bring to you some quick ways to get some relief from the period pain. Here we go!

1) Heat

Applying heat to your body improves blood circulation and relaxes your stiff muscles. A warm bubble bath, a hot shower, or a heating pad is all you need!

2) Fluids

Consumption of fluids might help the blood flow and it can ease the tension created in your abdomen muscles. Drink loads of water, a cup or two of herbal tea, warm milk, etc. If you don’t like warm things or plain water, try fruit juices but with normal temperature. Make a pitcher of cucumber, mint, or lemon water drink throughout the day. Sip a cup of low sodium broth to increase your fluid intake. Sip chamomile tea, it is full of anti-inflammatory substances that inhibit prostaglandins which help with menstrual pain.

3) OTC

Try Over The Counter medicines like Ibuprofen, Advil, Tylenol, or Meftal Spas if the pain is unbearable. These might provide instant relief from the overbearing cramps.

4) Stress

Stress and anxiety cause muscles to contract and in turn, they gift us painful cramps. So it’s time to say “Goodbye Stress” ladies! Might as well do some sort of meditation and maybe listen to your favorite music in full volume. Getting some sleep could also help.

5) Workout

Exercise might be the last thing on your mind when you’re in pain but trust me, it is way underrated. Few light exercises, dance moves, or a ten-minute walk could be a pain reliever and an energy booster at the same time. Heavy exercise is recommended only if you’re comfortable with it, otherwise, kindly avoid getting drained out.

6) Yoga

Yoga is said to be a very important aspect in enhancing our physical fitness. Some yoga poses given below have been found to be the most effective for cramps:
(a) Cobbler’s Pose (Baddha Konasana)
(b) Head to Knee Pose (Janu Sirsasana)
(c) Seated Straddle (Upavistha Konasana)
(d) Seated Forward Bend (Paschimottanasana)
(e) Goddess Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)
(f) Supported Bridge Pose
(g) Child’s pose (Balasana)
(h) Reclining twist (Bharadvaja)

7) Massage Therapy

Massage is the best way known to release stress and loosen stiff muscles. It is also considered a relief for body pain. Massaging your lower abdomen, back, or legs as per your preference is really helpful. Try using essential oils.

8) Medicine Alternative

Acupuncture and Acupressure are regarded as effective alternatives to allopathic medicine. Acupuncture is the process of stimulating the body by placing needles in the skin. Acupressure means putting pressure on certain points of the body that relieve muscle tension and period cramps. Homeopathic or herbal medicine can also provide relief with minimal side effects.

9) No Treating

Chocolate cake or brownie might sound enticing but every savory high in sugar can cause bloating and inflammation which may increase muscle cramps or stomachache. Try switching to fruits like banana or melon to calm your sugar cravings. Eating anti-inflammatory foods like salmon, green leafy veggies, walnuts, almonds, tomatoes, berries, etc. can relax your uterus.

10) MUST TRY QUICK FIX

(a) A pinch of cinnamon twice a day with a cup of hot cocoa or bowl of cereal or a glass of normal milk.
(b) A slice of ginger in your pint of detox water or boiled ginger tea or simply boiled milk with a hint of ginger might reduce the cramps.
(c) A pinch of turmeric or raw turmeric in the fluids you intake can reduce inflammation and lessen the pain.

11) Get some sunshine

Vitamin D can be helpful in reducing pain caused by dysmenorrhea caused due to increased levels of prostaglandins which leads to shedding of the uterus lining. You can get your Vitamin D level tested by a simple blood test and lie in the sun for an hour approximately to get enough Vitamin D.

These tips have proven to be helpful for millions of women out there. Try them and experience yourself.
