  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Additional sugar for caramelizing

Crème Brûlée Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and place six ramekins in a large baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to steam.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until light and creamy.
  4. Slowly pour the hot cream into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to prevent the eggs from cooking.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the mixture into the ramekins, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Pour enough hot water into the baking dish to come halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still slightly jiggly.
  9. Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let cool to room temperature.
  10. Cover each ramekin with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  11. When ready to serve, sprinkle a thin layer of sugar on top of each ramekin.
  12. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the sugar until it turns a deep golden brown.
  13. Serve immediately and enjoy the contrast of the creamy custard and the crunchy caramelized sugar.
