Women Going Abroad Alone From Bihar Increased Tenfold

Patna. The landscape of Bihar is changing as more and more women from the state are setting off on solo international adventures. Over the past five years, the number of women traveling abroad alone has skyrocketed tenfold. These trailblazing women are venturing out for studies, research, employment, and exploration.

Back in 2019, about 10,654 women from Bihar embarked on solo journeys abroad. Fast forward to November this year, and a staggering one lakh five thousand women have traveled overseas by themselves. This surge in solo female travelers from Bihar excludes the years of the COVID-19 pandemic (2021 and 2022), but the trend has been steadily climbing since 2019. In the 2023-2024 period alone, three lakh eighty thousand people made their passports, with one and a half lakh being single women. Among these, one lakh five thousand women went abroad alone, primarily for research and studies.

Women on a Mission

Most of these courageous women head to various universities in the United States, driven by academic aspirations. They secure visas that often last up to five years, allowing them ample time to pursue their studies and research. European countries are also a popular destination, attracting women who seek cultural enrichment and leisure.

The Job Market Beckons

The number of women from Bihar venturing abroad for employment has also been on the rise. In 2022, 145 women went overseas for jobs. This number grew to 398 in 2023 and reached 432 in 2024. These women are making strides in fields like medicine, biotechnology, engineering, and the social sector. Their visas typically range from five to ten years, with options for renewal, allowing them to build significant careers abroad.

Visa Varieties

Most women take visas ranging from 15 days to one year. Those involved in research often opt for six-month visas, which can be extended if needed. Women pursuing PhDs usually get visas for six months to a year, with renewals available for longer stays.

Security Outside Fatehpur Mosque

In other news, security has been heightened outside the Noorie Jama Masjid in Fatehpur. After demolishing an encroached part of the mosque, police and PAC personnel have been on high alert to ensure peace and order. The intelligence department is also keeping a watchful eye on the town’s activities, with the broken part of the mosque now covered with tarpaulin. The administration’s swift action aims to maintain harmony in the area.
