Republic Day 2025: Celebrating Women Empowerment through the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Tableau
The Ministry of Rural Development’s vibrant tableau at the Republic Day parade 2025 paid a remarkable tribute to the transformative ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme. Displayed at the iconic Kartavya Path, the tableau highlighted women’s economic empowerment and their journey towards financial independence through entrepreneurship.
A towering, symbolic statue of a confident Lakhpati Didi, holding a bundle of money, stood at the forefront of the tableau, epitomizing financial self-sufficiency and success. Behind her, lively scenes depicted rural women engaged in various economic activities like weaving, crafting handicrafts, and farming, showcasing their entrepreneurial spirit and determination.
The tableau, themed ‘Lakhpati Didi,’ beautifully narrated the story of rural women’s transformation, celebrating their empowerment through entrepreneurship and skill development. Girls holding books and women using computers were also depicted, reflecting their journey toward self-reliance by embracing education and modern technology.
Adding to its charm, the tableau incorporated motifs rooted in rural India, such as pottery, local crafts, and native flora, vividly representing the essence of the Indian countryside.
As per the Ministry of Rural Development, over 1.15 crore women Self-Help Group (SHG) members have successfully become ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ achieving an annual household income of over ₹1 lakh. To date, more than 10 crore rural women have been mobilized into 91.8 lakh SHGs, creating a massive movement toward economic empowerment.
To honor their achievements, approximately 300 women from SHGs who have become ‘Lakhpati Didis’ were invited as special guests to witness the grand Republic Day parade.
This inspiring showcase was a testament to the power of rural women and their invaluable contributions to India’s development, symbolizing a brighter, more equitable future for the nation.
