Quantum Computing: The Encryption Threat

On April 3, 2026, teams from Caltech and Harvard announced they have successfully used neutral atom qubits to run sophisticated error-correction codes.

The Red Alert: Researchers now estimate that a quantum computer capable of breaking standard 2048-bit RSA encryption could be built using only tens of thousands of qubits, rather than the millions previously thought necessary. This has triggered a massive, global push toward “post-quantum” cryptography in the banking and defense sectors.
